Don’t skip the overlook

On our recent road trip to Scottsdale, I convinced my husband to pull over at a scenic overlook just past Hoover Dam on US 93. It’s rare that I can convince him to make what he considers unnecessary stops when we’re driving. He’s the “hurry up and get there” type, the kind of person who usually prefers to fly rather than drive. Meanwhile, I would be happy to visit every ghost town and scenic overlook and diner along the way.

But on this particular occasion, as I excitedly pointed out the “scenic overlook: 1/2 mile” sign and tried to convince him that it would be a quick visit and wouldn’t take us too far astray from the highway, he slowed down and pulled into the parking lot.

We were treated to a dramatic view of the Colorado River, the mountains, and an overcast sky. We took a few pictures and then continued on our way. The stop only took a minute or two, but it produced one of my favorite photos from our weekend in Arizona.

  1. That is a dramatic view – very nice. Funny how you forget to look at the things you live so near to, or travel by so often.
